The Don Valley Brick Works

The Don Valley Brick Works and Crothers Woods comprise one of Toronto’s most valued natural environment park complexes. The transformation of the former quarry site at the Brick Works to a recreational amenity, combined with the integrated trail system of Crothers Woods, creates a significant natural environment complex of over 100 hectares in the downtown core. Offering a variety of recreation experiences from walking trails to mountain biking, the park complex is an important destination where nature can be experienced without leaving the City. TPP developed landscape management plans for the park complex as well as a number of specific design interventions, such as entry features. The purpose of the management plans was to create feasible and realistic documents to guide management and maintenance activities in the park complex. They were also intended to serve as prototypes for the management of natural environment parks throughout the City.
