Southwest Brantford
West of Conklin Secondary Plan, City of Brantford, Ontario
The Planning Partnership recently led a team in the completion of a Secondary Plan and corresponding Urban Design Guidelines for Southwest Brantford, West of Conklin. The study area comprised approximately 422 hectares of land with varied property ownership. The purpose of the study was to examine the land development potential and provide innovative land use development concepts. Fundamental goals described in the Plan are the achievement of a pedestrian-friendly, transit-supportive community structure, and a minimum density of 50 residents and/or jobs per hectare as required by “Places to Grow." The study also included a comprehensive inventory of the natural environment. The inventory identified opportunities and constraints to future development, and provided an open space “framework” for the development of a preferred land use plan and related policies.
