Veterans’ Memorial
City of Toronto, Ontario

The Planning Partnership in collaboration with Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg coordinated the design and construction for the Veterans’ Memorial on the front lawn of the legislature at Queen’s Park. The memorial commemorates the sacrifices and duties undertaken by Canada’s Veterans and Peacekeepers.

The memorial is 30 metres long and over two metres high constructed from black granite and architectural bronze. The wall is engraved with scenes from Canada’s war history from confederation to present day prepared by Canadian Artist Allan Harding MacKay. Also part of the wall are poetic text contributions from author Jane Urquhart and documentary text by military historian Professor Jack Granatstein. In addition to the wall, the monument features a gathering area/plaza, paved with granite and a solid granite seat wall.
