The Planning Partnership was retained by the Town of Richmond Hill to prepare a Land Use and Urban Design Strategy for the Downtown Local Centre. The Strategy addressed land use, built form, the public realm and transportation for Richmond Hill’s historic village centre. As part of the Strategy, a new Civic Precinct was envisioned at Major Mackenzie Drive East and Yonge Street.
The Planning Partnership was subsequently retained to explore ideas and shape recommendations on the vision, purpose and future uses for the Civic Precinct. The events were facilitated under the direction of the Civic Precinct Task Force and included workshops to engage stakeholders, area residents and members of the general public in creative, constructive and collaborative conversations. Our concepts explored opportunities for civic uses, residential, office and retail uses and public spaces.
