BAY BEACH
Fort Erie, ON
The Bay Beach Master Plan was a project led by The Planning Partnership which involved an extensive public consultation process. TPP organized and hosted three community workshops/summits framed around meetings, site walks, presentations, informal drop-ins, working sessions and one-on-one interviews. These events were critical to understanding the opportunities and constraints affecting the area, to shaping a vision for the site that reflected the aspirations of the community, and to addressing important natural and cultural heritage considerations.
The resulting master plan included a concept design for the public beach/park that involved a number of projects for future capital development. It also provided potential land use development scenarios for the adjacent parcels of publicly owned land and laid the foundations for private/public partnerships with respect to streetscape enhancements and parking strategies.
The final plan includes new structures, amenities, site furnishings, landscaping and dune restoration in the beach/park, as well as paving, on-street parking, and sidewalk enhancements along Erie Road and within the existing northwest parking lot on the north side of the road.
The Planning Partnership was subsequently retained by the Town to prepare the design and construction documents for the Beach/Park. Construction was completed in 2019.
