YORKVILLE AVENUE

Toronto, ON

The Planning Partnership has worked with the Bloor-Yorkville BIA for over a decade on several public realm projects.

The Planning Partnership undertook a detailed inventory of all streetscape elements and a public realm quality assessment for all streets in the BIA. This work led to a Master Plan that identified a hierarchy of streets and associated paving, planting, and furnishing treatments according to the typology. Gateway locations and focal areas (major intersections and parks) were also identified that present an opportunity for high quality streetscape and public realm improvements.

Since the Master Plan, TPP has prepared conceptual plans and more specifically detail designs for several of the streets to align with infrastructure renewal projects including Yorkville Avenue, Bellair, and Cumberland and recently has been assisted the BIA with construction administration for Yorkville Avenue.

The design for Yorkville Avenue includes a wall to wall transformation including new sidewalks, curbs and drive aisles complete with a unified colour palette built out with concrete unit pavers that blend harmoniously with the street’s eclectic heritage.
